I went through marriage counselling, reveals Kalki Koechlin

Actor Kalki Koechlin revealed that she went through counselling before her divorce to Anurag Kashyap to deal with the situation better and hailed fellow actor Deepika Padukone for speaking about her depression in public.

Actor Kalki Koechlin and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap are officially divorced now, but they gave their four-year marriage the best try they could. A few days before they announced the development, Kalki shared with us that she went through counselling in order to deal better with the situation.

"I went through marriage counselling, I went through therapy ... all of us have these things so why not share them? Why be apologetic?" she told us, however admitting that one needs to be responsible because words are often misinterpreted.

"It’s not like I’ll never talk about my personal life and be absolutely cold and professional, but I have to take into account the other people who are going to be affected. It’s a tricky subject,” said the 31-year-old, also hailing other actors who’ve had the courage to talk openly about their personal problems. Case in point — actor Deepika Padukone — who made a public revelation about going into depression in the past.

“Things are coming out in the open. It’s a good time to be in the industry. I do believe Deepika is genuine in speaking about her depression, and she did go through a rough phase. If you want to say something, you should say it — whether or not you’re a celebrity.”
