Manoj Bajpayee complains of discrimination against his films in award shows, Sanjay Gupta asks him to learn dancing
Manoj Bajpayee has two National Film Awards, four Filmfare awards and was recently honoured with the Padma Shri. However, he has expressed displeasure at “discrimination” against his films in “mainstream awards” and said he is used to the fact that his films maybe highly acclaimed nationally and internationally but they don’t get due recognition in India. Interestingly, the interaction that followed was quite hilarious - filmmaker Sanjay Gupta suggested Manoj should learn dancing to get nominated and Manoj had an epic reply.
After Filmfare nominations on Wednesday, Manoj tweeted a poster of his 2018 movie Gali Guleiyan and wrote: “So used to the fact that all the films of mine which are highly acclaimed nationally and internationally don’t even get a place in the nominations list of so called big mainstream awards here, forget about winning. Creative pursuit and exploitation continue! Gali Guleiyan.”
Sanjay Gupta tweeted, “Bhai kab se keh raha hoon stage par naachna seekh lo. Tum ho ki maante hi nahin...” And Manoj replied, “Hahaha saying in bhojpuri (you cannot tame an adult parrot) !!”
Gali Guleiyan, a psychological drama starring Ranvir Shorey, Neeraj Kabi, Shahana Goswami and debutant Om Singh, premiered at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival and was also screened at the 2017 MAMI Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, 42nd Cleveland International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival and the 2018 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The film is directed by Dipesh Jain.
Manoj has been awarded the National Film Award for his performances in Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya and the film on Amrita Pritam’s book Pinjar. He also bagged Filmfare awards for Shool, Taandav, Aligarh and Satya.
