Set in the ’80s and ’90s, the movie will revolve around the nexus between the police, the underworld, politicians and mill owners. “It will recreate the crime scene around the advent of Hindu gangs (after Dawood Ibrahim left India). It was then that everyone was eyeing the lucrative mill properties,” informs an insider.

Sanjay plans to cast the actors from his last release, Shootout At Wadala (SAW), in this film too. So John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Sonu Sood, Manoj Bajpayee and Tusshar Kapoor might soon team up again. “Two more big names will also be roped in. He (Sanjay) is already in talks with them,” says the source close to the director-producer.

Incidentally, rumours about Abhishek Bachchan working with Sanjay have been doing the rounds for a while. On that front, Sanjay says nothing has been finalised yet. Yet, he confirms that the film is on, saying that “Mumbai Saga is one of my most ambitious films. It is based on a series of true events. But I’ve learnt a lesson from SAW, which is why I won’t be using any real names this time.”

Earlier, while working on SAW, Sanjay had initially used the real names of various people, including Dawood. Reportedly, he had to change those names to avoid complications at the last minute.

Mumbai Saga will go on the floors later this year.
