Remember Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar’s unusual chemistry in the 1994 hit Main Khiladi Tu Anari? Recently Sameer Malkan’s film made headlines with reports about Saif contemplating its sequel under his production house Illuminati Films. But the actor clarifies he has no such plans.

"I don’t know if Akshay would like to play the original role once again since the cop didn’t have as much to do as the hero in the original," laughs Saif. "I am just kidding. But once, I had jokingly asked Akki about the film and he had told me he would like to play the hero this time around. There are no plans to make the sequel though."

SaifSo, how did a leading daily carry the news with his comments? The Love Aaj Kal actor clarifies, "I was talking to a film journalist, and we were discussing sequels becoming popular these days. I remember when we did Main Khiladi Tu Anari, I had said, ‘We should make a sequel’. Everybody had told me, ‘No, it’s not a very good idea.’"

He adds, "When I was asked if I would make a sequel to Main Khiladi Tu Anari, I said, ‘Why not’, we have been open to making it, but I don’t think there is any such plan, and I can tell you that it won’t happen." The film revolved around a movie star (Saif) trying to help out a cop (Akshay) to crack a murder case.

At the moment, Saif is excited about the "most exciting phase" of his career. "I’m taking up a lot of challenging roles right now," says Saif, who has Agent Vinod, Aarakshan and Homi Adajania’s next film, tentatively titled Cocktail, listed on his date diary. "I have an amazing team at my production house that gives me a lot of freedom to go out and try my hands at new things."
