The first posters of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati was released early morning on Thursday and it shows us the royal Deepika Padukone. We have seen her playing a queen earlier as well, in Bajirao Mastani for instance, but there is an edge to her in Padmavati. Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, who also star in the film, shared the posters on Twitter too.
The film’s posters said that Deepika plays the “goddess queen”.
“On the occasion of first day of Devi puja, here’s the first look of Padmavati,” Deepika wrote with the poster.
Earlier she had said the first look will be revealed as the sun rises on Thursday, heralding the beginning of Navratri festival which is celebrated with much fanfare in India.
Two posters of the upcoming film were released and both show Deepika wearing a red royal dress and heavy Rajasthani jewelry. One of them shows a group of women in veils standing behind Deepika even as the star stands with folded hands but with a royally confident attitude. It is hard to miss Deepika’s unibrow too, something that soon led to much Twitter discussion.
The second poster shows Deepika as Padmavati, standing tall inside what looks like a temple.
Deepika essays the titular role of Rani Padmavati while Ranveer plays Alauddin Khilji. Shahid plays Padmavati’s husband, Raja Rawal Ratan Singh in the film. Padmavati is an upcoming Indian period drama film jointly produced by Bhansali Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
As soon as the posters were revealed, congratulatory messages started flowing in for the star. While Alia Bhatt wrote she “just died”, Farah Khan said Deepika looked “stunning”.
Deepika and Ranveer have earlier worked together with Bhansali in Bajirao Mastani (2015).
The film is slated to hit theatres on December 1.
