Akshay Kumar talks about his father’s service in the army and how patriotism runs in his blood ahead of the release of his next film Airlift.
Akshay Kumar and Saddam Hussain may have never met each other, but here’s a connection that’s quite a coincidence. “Saddam invaded Kuwait and I invaded Bollywood on the same day. On August 2, 1990, Saddam Hussain attacked Kuwait and on this very day, 25 years ago, I joined the film industry,” says Akshay, adding that he isn’t quite proud of the coincidence..

Incidentally, the actor, with whom we recently caught up in Lucknow, plays an Indian businessman who was responsible for the evacuation of 1,70,000 Indians in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war, in his upcoming film Airlift.

The actor, who has received acclaim for films like Special 26, Baby, Holiday and Gabbar, says patriotism runs in his blood. “My father was in the army so maybe patriotism is in my blood. It may sound filmy! I’ve lived a very self-disciplined life and I enjoy doing such projects. Neeraj Pandey or AR Murugadoss (directors) might have seen patriotism on my face and that suited their films. Who’d not like to do a real story in which 1,70,000 Indian are evacuated from Kuwait, making it to the Guinness Book of World Records?” he signs off.
