Race 2, directed by Abbas-Mastan opened to packed theatres on Friday. The movie has collected Rs 15.12 crore on its opening day.
"We are very happy with the opening of Race 2. To ensure we get maximum numbers, the film was released in 3,200 screens - third largest till date. We are expecting a great weekend," Gaurav Verma, director - India Theatrical Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement.
The movie, a sequel to 2008 film Race, features an ensemble cast of John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandez.
While Saif and Anil reprised their role, the others are new additions to the franchise.

Deepika Padukone is still basking in the success of her last release, Cocktail (2012). The film may not have raked in big money, but it’s won her Best Actor nominations at several awards. Now, she’s gearing up for Race 2, in which she’s once again paired with Saif Ali Khan after Love Aaj Kal (2009). "Either two people have chemistry or they don’t. Thankfully, Saif and I do. I hope that it’s a hat-trick this time. I think we still look like a fresh pair. This time, our chemistry will come out differently because even though our characters talk and like each other, they have motives behind it," she says. Deepika admits that she can’t reveal much about Race 2’s storyline, but she’s quick to deny that the movie isn’t being promoted as heavily as the 2008 original.

After many years, a Hindi movie will see a simultaneous release in Morocco in 4 to 5 screens, including theatres in Casablanca and Marrakech. Newer territories like Myanmar, East Timor, Maldives and Vietnam (with as many as 7 screens) are also in our release plan.
