Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor might be the best of friends beyond the screen, but they are rivals when it comes to a good role. Earlier, there were reports that Arjun Kapoor would play Kapil Dev in a film based on India’s unexpected victory at the cricket world cup in 1983. Now it’s being said that Arjun has been replaced by Ranveer.

Kabir Khan of Bajrangi Bahijaan fame is expected to direct the film. He reportedly met Singh for a long chat over the weekend.

The film will be written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It’ll be co-produced by Phantom Films and the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Vishnu Vardhan Induri.

Ranveer is currently gearing up for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati in which he is playing Alauddin Khilji. The film is expected to be a love story between Deepika Padukone’s Rani Padmavati and Shahid Kapoor’s Rawal Ratan Singh.

The film became controversial when a Rajput outfit called Karni Sena started protesting against the factual inaccuracies in the film. Later, the film’s set was vandalised by the activists of Karni Sena in Jaipur and Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
