Bollywood actors tell us about their favourite patriotic movies and the characters that impressed and inspired them:
My favorite patriotic film has to be Rang De Basanti. It shows the patriotism in modern India sans the cliches and chest thumping false pride. It was real and relatable. My favorite patriotic character is of Bhagat Singh from The legend of Bhagat Singh, played by Ajay Devgn. I’m from Punjab and Bhagat Singh still remains a hero for the youth there.
My favourite and I think the most underrated patriotic film is Sarfarosh. The character ACP Rathod is one of the best patriots portrayed on screen and gave me a strong message that patriotism needs to be felt not screamed from rooftops or through songs.
Whenever I think of Bollywood patriotic films, one person that comes to my mind is Manoj Kumar. I especially like his film, Kranti. Another patriotic film that is among one of my favourites is Rang De Basanti. One character that has really inspired me from patriotic films is Ajay Devgn’s portrayal of Bhagat Singh in The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
I love all the films that have a patriotic flavour. I get goosebumps when I watch any film that is based on patriotism, be it Gandhi, Karma, Border or all the movies on Bhagat Singh. And I’ve been highly impacted by Manoj Kumar for his devotion towards our motherland.
The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Gandhi are my favourite patriotic films. Ajay Devgn played the role of Bhagat Singh very convincingly. Ben Kingsley, who played the lead role in Gandhi, also did a great job and I really liked his work.
Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi is my favourite patriotic film. I watched it when I was very young. I realised for the first time what love for the country is. The national figure who evokes a deep sense of patriotism in me is Mahatma Gandhi. For a child born much after the independence, it taught me to cherish our freedom.
