Vikram Bhatt’s horror-thriller Raaz 3 opened to Rs 11.05 crore on day one, putting it in league with the biggest starts of the year.
About the film starring Emraan Hashmi, Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta, trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “Small screens, heartland, mass-dominated circuits have seen an 80 to 85 per cent opening. Urban centres saw a 45 to 55 per cent opening. The 3D version saw a huge 90 opening in the country. The movie has seen an extraordinary opening, making it the biggest film so far in Emraan’s career.”
Exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi says, “It’s one of the best opening-weekend collections, having made around Rs 36.02 crore. The biggest credit goes to Emraan Hashmi. Also, the film has mass-friendly elements like sex and horror.”
Vajir Singh, editor, Box Office India, says, “The kindof films Emraan has been doing are all pure entertainers. His following shows trends similar to Salman (Khan) and other A-listers.” Ashish Saxena, COO, Big Cinemas says, “The weekend has been excellent for Raaz 3. There’s no other 3D film releasing any time soon, which gives it a huge advantage. There’s a craze for 3D cinema right now, and Raaz 3 has fared rather well. We don’t see any significant drop in collection and it will surely see another good weekend.”
Taran gives a break-up of the opening weekend collections: “Raaz 3 on Thursday previews collected Rs 58 lakh, on Friday made Rs 10.47 crore, Saturday Rs 11.18 crore and Sunday Rs 13.79 crore.”
