Kangana Ranaut’s recent interaction with Isha Foundation chief Sadhguru hasn’t got down well with many for her controversial statements on cow slaughter and liberals. She was slammed for her comments but the actor is not repentant.

In an interview with Mid Day, Kangana stuck to her guns and rejected the charge that she was justifying lynching. “I stand by everything we spoke about.”

In the course of her interaction, Kangana had said that while cows need to be protected, every time a lynching happened, she was heartbroken. Speaking about liberals, she agreed with Sadhguru that those who debate over violence “have not seen India” and “are living in cities and endlessly talking about these things”.

She also said that “the so-called liberals are indulgent with an entitled world view”.

When Mid Day asked her if she was trying to normalise cow vigilantism, she said: “We didn’t normalise lynching at any point. If a certain religion worships cows, you can’t slaughter cows. I am vegan and I can’t see raw meat. I can’t be shamed for my choices. If it’s a sentimental thing, why instigate people?”

She further said that one couldn’t hurt sentiments of people under the garb of being a ‘liberal’. She added that in a diverse land like India, one had to be considerate to people’s emotions. “Why is it hard for the so-called liberals to wrap their head around this? Being inconsiderate is not being liberal,” she said.

Kangana is not new to controversy. Last year she stoked a major controversy when she accused filmmaker Karan Johar of being the “flag bearer of nepotism”. It led to many voices speaking both for the debate and against the issue. Hardly to keep matters under wraps, she openly spoke of her many affairs, taking potshots at all her exes who included Hrithik Roshan, Aditya Pancholi and Adhyamaan Suman.

On the work front, Kangana has two big projects in hand—Manikarnika, a film on freedom fighter Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi and Mental Hai Kya with Rajkummar Rao.
