Sonu Sood, who was last spotted as the villain, Cheddi Singh in last year’s super hit, Dabangg, is now venturing into production. The actor is making a film called Lucky Unlucky, the script of which he claims has brought him a chance to fulfill his and his father’s long lost dream to be in the army.
“As a kid, I always thought of being a cop or an army man. My dad got selected in the Indian Army, but he was not allowed to go, as my grandparents had reservations. When I got into Engineering and then acting, the feel got totally diverted . Playing something like this is almost like having a dream come true,” says Sonu.
Production was always Sonu’s second career choice, and he has been waiting for the right script to start off with. “There is always a producer within an actor. You just wait for the right time to start functioning as one. I was always thinking of doing one core film to my satisfaction,” he says.
Written and directed by Afzal Ahmad Rizvi, Lucky Unlucky is the journey of a couple, with Mallika Sherawat playing the female lead opposite Sonu. “When I heard Afzal’s script, I thought it was a film I would like to go and see in the theatre, and it took off from there,” he says. Sonu is also giving a chance to fresh talent in his film. “It doesn’t have a starry cast. Rather, I have taken a fresh lot from NSD. They are very talented,” says the actor, who plans to go on the floors with the film early next year.
Ask him about the upcoming Dabangg sequel and Sonu says his exit was a mutual decision between him and producer-director Arbaaz Khan: “I share a very good rapport with Arbaaz and his family. There isn’t much scope for the Cheddi Singh character in this sequel, so I prefer not to be part of it. But I hope I will be back in Dabangg if a second sequel of the film is made.”
