Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree has established itself as the next big hit of the year. The horror comedy has performed exceedingly well at the box office and refuses to slow down any time soon.

Taran also hailed horror comedy as the new genre to look out for after the successes of Akshay Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiya, Ajay Devgn’s Golmaal Again and Stree. “Fear sells... And so do comedies... The marriage of horror and humour has resulted in three major successes: #BhoolBhulaiyaa , #GolmaalAgain and #Stree ... Does it signal the arrival of a new trend? Will we see more horror-comedies in future?,” he tweeted.
He also revealed that Stree has made more money in four days in Australia than any of Rajkummar Rao’s previous films made in their lifetime. “#Stree has won over audiences in desh as well as videsh… Let’s compare it with Rajkummar Rao’s previous movies in Australia... #BareillyKiBarfi *lifetime biz* A$ 60,767 #FanneyKhan *lifetime biz* A$ 58,673 #Stree *weekend + Mon biz* A$ 63,353... Crossed *lifetime biz* @comScore,” he wrote in a tweet.
The film is a big success in the careers of both Rajkummar and the film’s lead actor, Shraddha Kapoor. Shraddha’s biggest opener so far was Ek Villain with Rs 16 crore. Stree is also Rajkummar’s biggest weekend opener. Till now, Stree has done better than other 2018 films such as Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Fukrey Returns that have done good box office business this year.
Stree tells the story of a haunted town, visited by a woman’s ghost. Rajkummar plays a tailor who falls for Shraddha in the movie. However, his friends believe she is the ghost who comes visiting at night.
The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakti Khurana.
