Stylish crime busters
Bollywood has its share of men in uniform. Here are some who’ve made khaki a fashion statement on screen.bollywood Updated: Aug 17, 2012 00:12 IST
After playing the unapologetic, bribe-accepting cop Chulbul ‘Robin Hood’ Pandey in Dabangg (2010), actor Salman Khan returns on Christmas as inspector Pandey in Dabangg 2. This time, the story moves to Mumbai, and hopefully the sexy policewala will be seen playing father to Chulbul Jr. Of course, he will have his wife Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha) for company.
After Zanjeer (1973), superstar Amitabh Bachchan was tagged the angry young man. After playing a cop in movies in the 1970s and ‘80s, he wore the uniform again for Bade Miyaan Chote Miyaan (1998) Aks (2001), Dev (2004), Khakee (2004) and Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007). In the last one though, he didn't wear the uniform but played an investigating officer.
After playing ACP Rathore in Sarfarosh (1999), actor Aamir Khan didn’t put on the cop’s uniform for 13 years. But, he recently donned it again for filmmaker Reema Kagti’s upcoming movie, Talaash. Soon after the film went on the floors, the 47-year-old’s mustachioed look made headlines. Last heard, the team had shot an item song to pep up the thriller.
Actor Ajay Devgn is another star who plays the man in khaki with aplomb. His most recent cop drama was Singham (2011), where he played Inspector Shivajirao Singham. After a series of laugh riots, this action drama proved that Rohit Shetty could deliver hits even without inserting double-meaning jokes in his movies. According to industry insiders, there is a sequel to this south remake, which will flag off next year.
