The secret to my happy marriage is Sunita: Anil Kapoor

On Valentine’s Day, Anil Kapoor opens up about his wife; adds that she has “tolerated” all his “eccentricities”.

Be it his youthful looks or his charming personality — Anil Kapoor can still give several actors a run for their money. As far as his personal life is concerned, he has been married to Sunita Kapoor for 32 years now, and proudly calls himself a family man. “I am blessed that I got to spend my life with my friend, who first became my girlfriend, and then my wife,” says Anil.

The couple, who has three kids together — Sonam, Rhea and Harshvardhan — got married in 1984, after dating for almost a decade. Anil believes that it is Sunita who really made an effort to keep their marriage going. “The film industry is a tough place to be in. You are constantly in the media glare. Plus, there are so many temptations out there all the time. But the secret to my happy marriage is Sunita. She is the one who has made it work, and tolerated all my eccentricities,” adds the actor.

Even though Anil Kapoor is a popular Bollywood actor, Sunita (his wife) chose to stay away from the limelight. “It is a decision she made long ago. Her world is her family, and I respect that,” says Anil, adding that he considers himself “lucky” to have an “amazing wife like Sunita”. Ask the actor about the most important aspects that make marriages work, and he says, “In a marriage, a sense of humour is very important, and so is being positive. Marriages are about compromises. At times, I compromise, and sometimes, she does. She has compromised a lot, and in the long run, I have understood that it has been only to benefit me.”
