The film is scheduled to release on August 11.

Merely weeks before the film’s release, director-choreographer Remo D’Souza found a pirated copy of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha on a pen drive. According to a report in Spotboye, Remo was handed the pen drive by his building’s gym instructor.

“My building’s gym trainer, Vithal, came up to me and said that he had a pen drive which has the first half of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I thought he was joking, but he insisted that I believe him. I immediately told him to bring it to me,” Remo said in the report. “I opened up the pen drive and almost fell off from my chair. It was not the first half, but the entire second half,” he added.

Remo says he understood how the director of the film, Shree Narayan Singh, must feel. “This implied that if this pen drive had started doing the rounds, it would have created havoc. I am a filmmaker and I know how the world comes crashing down if anybody’s film from my fraternity is exposed before it hits theatres,” he said.

He also told The Indian Express of how he tried to contact Akshay Kumar. “I first called Akshay sir, but since he was in London, he was unavailable. Then I called up Prerna Arora, the producer, told her about the situation, Director Shree Narayan Singh came and collected the pen drive from me. They will be taking legal action against piracy, and I will talk to Akshay sir once he is back,” he said.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha stars Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles and is scheduled to release on August 11. The film is based on the true story of a newly-wed woman who left her husband on not finding an indoor toilet in his home.
