When they say
“I’ve been so fascinated with so-and-so’s new participatory project”
They mean
The artist didn’t want to do all the work himself, and certainly didn’t have the stomach to be responsible for all the criticism that might come his way. So he crowdsourced, and gave it a fancy name
When they say
“Did you see so-and-so’s mixed media works?”
They mean
So-and-so knows that oil on canvas is so 2011. So he’s using paper, clay, video, blood, goats and all the home delivery plastic dabbas his mother hoarded to make art
When they say
“There is a very inventive use of found objects in so-and-so’s work”
They mean
So-and-so really went looking for trash and has convinced you to pay `3.5 lakh for his best-from-waste project
When they say
“The site-specific installation is awesome”
They mean
If you took the work out of the location it is currently in, it would look stupid and be worth nothing
