BITS Pilani students launch investment fund
At Questus, 35 BITS students have pooled in a total of Rs 70,000 for a start, with which they will build their own portfolios.
Students of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, have launched the first ever students' investment fund in India. Called Questus, this initiative of the Wall Street Club (WSC) at BITS, was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, LK Maheshwari on Wednesday.
At Questus, 35 BITS students have pooled in a total of Rs 70,000 for a start, with which they will build their own portfolios. Many more students are expected to join as the project gathers momentum.
Managing the fund will entail keeping a watch on market trends, analysing companies sectorally and placing orders for buying and selling shares online. The WSC, one of the numerous student groups at BITS, was started by Abhishek Nirmal Humbad,a third year student of electrical and electronic engineering. "Today's engineering stands for 'design, build and test'," Professor Maheshwari said.
