State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has commenced production of both Euro IV petrol and diesel at its Mumbai refinery.

The move is part of BPCL’s Rs 1,635-crore refinery modernisation project for its refinery at Mumbai. The first phase of revamp including the greener fuel mandate at a cost of Rs 440 crore stands completed, said a senior official of BPCL.

“Most of Mumbai and Delhi demand of HSD/petrol of Euro IV quality will be met by the BPCL Mumbai refinery,” said Ashok Sinha, chairman and managing director, BPCL.

Euro IV fuels are clean environment-friendly fuels due to lower amount of sulphur in diesel and lower sulphur and aromatic content in petrol.

The reduction will ensure lower emissions of green house gases and the better quality of air for breathing.
