BPL Mobile is planning to invest around Rs 200 crore in its Mumbai circle, of the total Rs 500 crore earmarked in India, and install another 250 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), aimed at doubling its capacity in the circle.
"The investments are to support our expanding subscriber base and increase in airtime usuage, which has been posting quantum rises after the 'free-incoming call' regime," BPL Mobile executive vice-president Krishna Angara told PTI on Sunday.
The company, which at present registers over 600 minutes under its post-paid scheme and around 250 minutes under its pre-paid scheme per month, expects to double the useage after the increase in capacities, he said.
A part of the amount would also be used for setting up an additional 250 BTS, or cell sites, in the circle, he said, adding, BPL Mobile has over 350 BTSs in the region.
BPL Mobile is also planning to roll-out Intelligent Network (IN) platform with Camel Phase II technology for the pre-paid product in the Western Region by December end, he said, adding, this would enable the GSM service provider to offer new features and services, apart from maintaining a leading edge in the marketplace.
