Goodwill move: Bangla to get 250 MW

As a goodwill gesture, power deficit India has agreed to export 250 megawatt of power to Bangladesh. Central power transmission utility, Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd has been asked to facilitate this transfer of power to Dhaka by 2012.

Following the meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a memorandum of understanding was inked in the capital on Tuesday between the power ministries of both sides for co-operation in the power sector and for exchange of electricity.The financial modalities regarding the transmission link are yet to discussed but sources said the link would cost around Rs 850 crore of which early Rs 750 crore will be spent by Bangladesh.
