Govt assured of Rs 96,000 crore in spectrum auction

The government is assured to garner Rs 96,000 crore from spectrum auction in the 2,100 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands, after the brief dip in interest from bidders on Tuesday.

Brisk bidding was seen on day seven of the auction, with activity requirement set at 100%.

“At present, over 84% of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders at a value of approximately Rs 96,000 crore,” according to a statement from the communications ministry.

This is also an indication that the spectrum on offer could be exhausted by this weekend, said a source at the department of telecommunications.

Till now, 43 rounds of bidding have taken place across bands.

On Tuesday, the total amount that government would have got from spectrum auction had come down to Rs 92,000 crore from Rs 94,000 crore on Monday.
