Jet Inc submits note against Jet India

The note quoted an IB man as saying that Jet Airways received large dubious investments, reports Lalit K Jha.

Continuing its diatribe against the popular Jet Airways India, the American Jet Inc on Friday submitted to the US Department of Transportation a letter written by a top Intelligence Bureau official alleging intermittent contacts between the underworlds don Dawood Ibrahim and the head of the private Indian airliner.

In fact, the Jet Inc president and chief executive officer, Nancy Heckerman, on June 17 submitted two set of affidavits along with a few more supportive documents, which it claimed to have procured from its authoritative sources in the Indian Government.

The letter written by the then IB joint director, Anjan Ghosh, to the then joint secretary (Inter-State Intelligence), Sangita Gairala, forms part of the documents submitted by the Jet Inc in support of its claim that the Jet Airways India had alleged links with terrorist networks, a charge repeatedly being denied by the Indian airlines, which has announced its decision to initiate defamatory proceedings against its US rival.

According to the affidavit, the letter dated December 12, 2001, copy of which was made available to HindustanTimes.com, said: "We have confirmed information of intermittent contacts between Naresh Goyal (head of Jet India) and underworld dons, Chhota Shakeel and Dawood Ibrahim."

"Our further enquiries have established that Naresh Goyal and his Jet Airways have been steadily recipients of large dubious investments originating from the Gulf sheikhs," IB official alleged in his letter to the MHA joint secretary.

Heckerman in her affidavit claimed that these "copies of official documents confirm the findings" of her company and these were from the offices of some of the most important officials of the Indian Government.
