More than a million people in Latin American and Caribbean are jobless at the end of the first quarter this year, a report said.

The report was jointly carried by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, (ECLAC) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) stated that the unemployment rates in Latin American and Caribbean regions, as compared to last year, increased by 0.6 per cent.

The increase in the unemployment rates shows the negative effect of the global economic crisis on the labour markets of these regions.
The report by ECLAC and ILO was based on a survey in nine countries of the region.
