The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Tuesday opened lower by 62 (rpt) 62 points in early trade on funds selling, tracking weak global trend.
The 30-share index, which had lost 284.53 points in previous day's trading, fell further by 61.93 points to 8,545.15 following reports that the US equity market plunged to 12-year lows on fears of deepening recession.
The 50-share National Stock Exchange Nifty also fell by 20.25 points to 2,654.35 points.
Stock brokers said most of the bluechip firms remained under pressure on sustained selling by funds as well as retail investors following sharp losses on the Asian markets after the US stocks slid to 12-years lows.
