The benchmark Sensex surged 229.17 points in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday as shares of the country's second largest lender ICICI Bank gained after worries on US subprime mortgage crisis eased.

The Sensex gained 229.17 points at 15,350.91 in the first five minutes of trade on account of funds buying in other bluechips as well.
Similarly, the wide-base National Stock Exchange's Nifty rose by 26.55 at 4,490.55 points.
