Telecom-cum-retail tycoon Sunil Bharti Mittal on Wednesday donated $1 million for the education of rural underprivileged children.
"This underlines corporate India's commitment towards fulfilling the government's vision of inclusive growth. Corporate India will continue to work with the government and voluntarily contribute towards this cause," Mittal, chairman and managing director, Bharti Airtel Ltd, said in a statement.
Bharti Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Bharti Enterprises, will administer the donation.
Bharti Foundation is working towards opening 1,000 primary schools in villages across India for underprivileged children, especially girls. The promoters and associates of Bharti had committed a corpus of Rs 2 billion for various programmes undertaken by Bharti Foundation.
