As directed by the Telecom Tribunal, TRAI has set up a committee to look into technology and switches to be used by basic operators offering WLL mobile service in order to ensure that limited mobile services remained distinct from cellular services.

The committee would be headed by TRAI member DPS Seth and would have two more members -- IIT Kanpur chairman Prof VK Dande and CSIR Additional Secretary VK Gupta.
While delivering the judgement on Cellular operators' petition on usage of switches by basic operators, TDSAT had asked Government to constitute a taskforce to go into the details of technology to be used by the operators.
"As per the direction of the TDSAT, we have constituted a committee which would go into all these details," said TRAI chairman Pradip Baijal.
Asked about the terms of reference of the Committee, Baijal said it was for the purpose of implementing TDSAT's recommendations.
