KTM 390 Adventure R launched in India at ₹3.78 lakh

KTM has launched the 390 Adventure R, a more off-road focused variant of the standard 390 Adventure.

KTM India has officially launched the 390 Adventure R in the Indian market. The motorcycle is now listed on the brand’s website with prices announced at ₹3,77,915 ex-showroom. Interestingly, this makes it more affordable than the standard 390 Adventure, which continues to retail at ₹3,94,699 ex-showroom.

KTM 390 Adventure R will be offered in just one colour option, which is Ceramic White.

Bookings for the 390 Adventure R are now open across KTM dealerships with a token amount of ₹1,999. Deliveries are expected to commence shortly, marking the arrival of a more hardcore, off-road-focused option in KTM’s adventure lineup.

How is the KTM 390 Adventure R priced below the 390 Adventure?

The 390 Adventure R comes with tube-type tyres that are off-road spec. Moreover, the R trim also misses out on cruise control. This is the reason the Adventure R is priced below the 390 Adventure.

The 390 Adventure R will use the same engine as the 390 Adventure that is currently on sale.

What is the difference between the 390 Adventure R and the 390 Adventure?

The KTM 390 Adventure R is not just another version of the standard 390 Adventure. It is a far more off-road focused motorcycle, aimed at serious trail riders.

The biggest change comes in the suspension setup. The Adventure R gets longer travel suspension at both ends, designed to handle rough terrain and aggressive off-road riding. In comparison, the standard 390 Adventure uses shorter travel suspension, tuned primarily for road comfort and touring. For perspective, the 390 Adventure R has 230 mm of wheel travel, whereas the 390 Adventure has a wheel travel of 200 mm in the front and 205 mm at the rear.

Another major difference is the wheel configuration. The Adventure R runs a 21 inch front and 18 inch rear spoked wheel setup, making it compatible with proper off-road tyres. The standard Adventure uses a 21 inch front and 17 inch rear wheel, which is more road-biased. Apart from this, the R variant also gets an Offroad mode and Offroad ABS.

Thanks to the taller suspension, the Adventure R also offers higher ground clearance and a taller seat height, improving obstacle clearance but making it less accessible for shorter riders. The standard model sits lower and is easier to live with on a daily basis. For reference, the ground clearance for the R variant sits at 272 mm, whereas the Adventure S sits at 237 mm. Finally, there is the kerb weight; the Adventure R weighs 176 kg, which is 6 kg lighter than the Adventure.

Mechanically, both motorcycles remain identical, sharing the same engine and gearbox. The difference lies purely in intent. The 398.6 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine produces the same 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm.
