KTM Issues Safety Recall for 390 Models Over Side Stand Spring Risk
KTM is recalling several 390 models for 2025-2026 due to a potential side stand spring failure. Owners should visit authorized dealers for free repairs.
KTM has announced a safety recall that affects several models in its 390 line for the 2025 and 2026 model years. The company says owners of the Adventure R, Adventure X, Enduro R and SMC R should visit an authorised dealership to have the side stand spring replaced. KTM India has now announced that the recall only affects the motorcycles sold in the USA, Canada and a few other regions. In India, and a few other markets, the fabricated side stands were proactively upgraded earlier this year.
The recall follows internal quality checks that revealed the possibility of the spring breaking because of engine vibrations. KTM notes that the issue only concerns motorcycles fitted with forged side stands. The brand reports only a small number of cases, yet it has still decided to act in order to prevent risk and maintain its safety standards.

Owners who need to ride to a dealership can secure the side stand temporarily with a rubber band or something similar. In some cases, technicians might also install a new retaining plate for the side stand sensor. This plate alters the trigger range for the switch, and dealers will inform riders if their motorcycle requires this additional work.
Letters are being sent to affected customers, and the repairs will be carried out at no cost. KTM says that the update can only be completed through its authorised dealer network. The official website lists all participating dealers and includes a tool to check if a motorcycle falls under the recall.
KTM India clarified that no global recall has been announced for motorcycles equipped with Fabricated Side Stands. The ongoing global recall is limited to motorcycles fitted with Forged side stands, primarily in markets such as the USA, Canada and a few other regions. In India and select international markets the side stand springs used on Fabricated side stands were proactively upgraded earlier this year.

Not the first recall
Earlier, KTM had declared a voluntary recall for the KTM 390 Duke (MY 2024-2026), 390 Enduro R, SMC R, Adventure R, and Adventure X (MY 2025-2026). These motorcycles are experiencing stalling problems at low RPMs. To resolve this issue, the manufacturer will be updating the engine control unit (ECU) software on all affected models.
KTM states that this update is expected to reduce the chances of engine stalling, particularly at lower speeds or during deceleration, while also improving rideability through enhanced low-end torque and increased engine stability.
Additionally, KTM has announced a recall for the 2024 KTM 125, 250, 390, and 990 Duke models. This recall concerns the seals of the fuel tank cap, which may be prone to cracking. To rectify this issue, the manufacturer will replace the affected component on all motorcycles at no charge, exclusively through authorised KTM dealers.
The Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and KTM 390 Adventure have also been recalled due to a defective electronic throttle assembly that could lead to a loss of throttle response while riding. In such cases, the motorcycle's engine would start to idle and would not respond to any throttle input. I have experienced this issue and it presents a serious risk if one is riding uphill or travelling at highway speeds.
