2 held for posing as CBI officers

Police have arrested two people on the charges of extorting money from a SAS Nagar resident by posing as officers with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Police have arrested two people on the charges of extorting money from a SAS Nagar resident by posing as officers with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The accused have been identified as Birash (28), resident of district Kangra, and Jai Inder Singh (27), resident of Patiala.

Sub-inspector Mohan Lal said the victim Atvari Kumar, who is roadside fast-food vendor, was on his way back home on his auto, when he was stopped near the Sector-42/53 dividing road.They accused introduced themselves as CBI officers and asked the victim to show documents of vehicle, which he failed to produce.

The accused demanded Rs 200 from the victim to let him go. Kumar expressed his inability to pay Rs 200 and the accused finally agreed on Rs 150.

The SI added the accused was arrested from the spot by a police team on patrolling. The accused made unsuccessful attempt to escape.

A case of under Sections 384 (extortion), 170 (impersonating a public servant) and 34 (criminal act done by several persons under common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused at the Sector-36 police station.
