2 PCR cops dismissed for extortion

Two cops attached to the Police Control Room (PCR), SAS Nagar, were dismissed from service for harassing and threatening a young couple to extort Rs 5,000 as illegal gratification.

Two cops attached to the Police Control Room (PCR), SAS Nagar, were dismissed from service for harassing and threatening a young couple to extort Rs 5,000 as illegal gratification.

Taking strict note of extortion by the cops, police constable Raghubir Singh and Punjab home guard Surinder Kumar have been dismissed from service.

The cops were arrested after the registration of a case in Phase 11 police station on the complaint of Inderdeep Singh, a resident of Phase 10, who alleged that the cops had demanded Rs 5,000 from his niece Kudrat and her fiancée Kuljeet Singh.

"Corruption and harassing public will not be tolerated at any cost. Following the complaint in this regard, the DSP (headquarters) was entrusted to look into the matter. The two cops were found guilty of demanding money and threatening the couple following which they have been dismissed from service," SAS Nagar SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.
