As many as 200 Congress workers from Dhanas village joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) during a ceremony held at Milk Colony in Dhanas here on Thursday.
The Congress workers joined the SAD in presence of Chandigarh unit in charge Daljeet Singh Cheema, councillor Jagjeet Singh Gora Kang, Senior SAD member Malkiat Singh, and Youth Akali Dal Sardar Charanjeet Singh Villi.
Divulging details, Malkeet Singh said: "The new members are welcomed in the SAD family. Residents of the villages have been getting aware of their voting rights and they have realised the power of their vote now. The Congress party has cheated them with their false promises of development and cases of corruption against the congress leaders are in open now.
"The common man is bearing the brunt of inflation, unemployment and poor infrastructure due the Congress' misrule. Now, the common man should show the door to the Congress by supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party, which believes in complete transparency. I appeal to the people to vote for the BJP and pave the way for Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister of India."
