30-year-old held for raping minor

The local police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl here on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday night at Tamil Colony in Maheshpur village, Sector 21, when the accused, Shakti, who lives two shanties away from the victim, came looking for his friend and victim’s sister.

The local police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl here on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday night at Tamil Colony in Maheshpur village, Sector 21, when the accused, Shakti, who lives two shanties away from the victim, came looking for his friend and victim’s sister.

He took the victim to a room inside the shanty and allegedly raped her. While she resisted the bid, people heard the noise and rescued her.

Shakti was beaten by neighbours, and later fled from the spot. He was arrested on Tuesday.

Victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the police. The girl’s medical examination was conducted and her statements were recorded.

“We have registered a case under section 376 (for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said a police official.

The accused is married and has three children. His wife, kids and sister were away to Tamil Nadu.
