35,000 kg of onion found stored without documents; fine imposed

More than 350 quintals (35,000 kg) of onions were found stored at Tikkri village in Morni on Thursday in a joint raid by the food and supply department and the local police. Storage of such a large quantity is a violation of the Essential Commodities Act.

“We had received a complaint. I informed the district food and supply department following which the raid was conducted,” said deputy commissioner SS Phulia. He added that the huge quantity of onions was hidden in a large room without any licence or valid documentation.

Chandimandir police station SHO inspector Arvind Kumar said, “The food and supply officials found out that 12 farmers of the region had collected the onions for seeding purposes and not for black marketing. However, they failed to produce the valid licence for the collection of onions and were penalised Rs 10,000.”
