The police on Thursday installed 106 checkpoints (nakas) in the city from 2 pm to 5 pm to keep a check on the activities of anti-social elements.

As many as 800 cops were deployed at the checkpoints where 8,747 vehicles were checked, and 342 were issued challans for various traffic violations. Besides, 47 vehicles were impounded.
Of 106 checkpoints, 38 were set up in the outer areas. The exercise was done under the supervision of SP- headquarters and operations. The 800 police personnel deployed for the purpose included five DSPs, 20 inspectors, all the SHOs and those heading police posts, 51 PCR vehicles, 22 Cheetah Squad (motorcycles) and 560 non-gazetted officers among others. Meanwhile, a car and two bikes were sent in the field to check the efficiency and alertness of the police officials at the checkpoints.
