A seven-year-old girl escaped the clutches of her molester after biting his hand on Monday.

The incident took place in Gobind Nagar of Shimlapuri when the girl had gone to buy a packet of Lassi from a nearby shop.

The accused identified as Gurcharan Singh, 70, of Gobind Nagar of Simlapuri allegedly lured her into his house with candies and chocolates and started molesting her. But the girl, showing her presence of mind, bit his arm and fled to safety.

The girl’s father, in his complaint, said that he had sent his daughter to buy a packet of Lassi from a nearby shop in the afternoon. When she did not return for a long time, he went out to look for her. After some time, he saw her crying on the road.

When asked, she told him that Gurcharan had lured her into his house and then molested her after removing her clothes. Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested under Sections 354-A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Assistant police commissioner Sandeep Wadehra said the accused had been living in the locality for the past three years.
