Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday greeted the people of Punjab on the eve of Diwali.
“This festival is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair,” the chief minister said in his message here.
The deputy CM felicitated the people, saying that the Sikh community celebrates Diwali as Bandi Chhor Diwas to mark the safe return of Guru Hargobind, the six Sikh Guru, along with Hindu kings, from the Mughals’ detention in the Gwalior fort in 1619.
Cabinet ministers Bikram Singh Majithia and Sikander Singh Maluka also greeted the people on the festive occasion.
