British council director meets PU V-C to discuss collaboration in education

The aim of the visit was strengthening the linkages between Panjab University and institutions of higher education and research in United Kingdom (UK). Chandigarh MP Pawan Bansal has agreed to release funds to the tune of Rs 1 crore out of Member of Parliament Local Area Scheme (MPLAD) to realise few steps towards its creation and the university has already received the first instalment of Rs 37 lakh.
British Council assistant director Manjula Rao, PU dean university instructions Madhu Raka, PU professor Rupinder Tewari and Manmohan Gupta were also present on the occasion.
Speaking after the meeting, Lynes said he was delighted to visit PU. He said PU's proposal of Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) was exciting and unique. He said institutes of UK and Chandigarh should collaborate further as it would help share knowledge and research through exchange programmes.
PU vice-chancellor Prof Grover informed Lynes that nearly 15 leading institutes of Chandigarh including PU, PGIMER and PEC have agreed to setup knowledge hub as CRIKC. CRIKC's endeavour was to foster and sustain close academic alliances between institutions of higher education and research in the Chandigarh region, to facilitate innovation and knowledge creation and for achieving excellence in all academic spheres without compromising in any manner the autonomy of the participating institutions, he added.
