CBI files charge sheet against suspended DSP

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today filed charge sheet against Raka Ghirra, suspended deputy superintendent of Punjab police, on charges of criminal conspiracy and corruption in a graft case that surfaced in 2011.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed charge sheet against Raka Ghirra, suspended deputy superintendent of Punjab police, on charges of criminal conspiracy and corruption in a graft case that surfaced in 2011.

In a 17-page charge sheet filed before the court of special CBI judge Vimal Kumar, the CBI indicted Ghirra under Section 120-B of the IPC and under Section 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

On April 20, Manmohan Singh, who was the reader and co-accused in the case, expressed his willingness in the CBI court to turn approver and give statement against Ghirra. Manmohan will now be a prosecution witness.

On July 25, 2011, the CBI had arrested the then Mohali DSP on charges of demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh from a builder to settle his case.
