The Centre has approved Rs 2,300 crore under Integrated Water Management Programme (IWMP) for Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said an amount of Rs 2300 crore has been approved by the Centre to the state for improvement 15.33 lakh hectares of land covering 998 micro water sheds.
They said 41 projects have already been sanctioned amounting to Rs 269 crore for 130 micro water sheds covering an area of 1.79 lakh hectares and detailed project reports (DPRs) of more projects would be prepared soon.
Officials said the state government has also requested Central government to be more generous to the state as it has passed through troubled times and expects more generosity of the union in terms of special packages.
They said the Centre has also increased the quantum of assistance under Individual Household Latrines (IHL) from Rs 3,500 to Rs 10,000 which would go a long way in ensuring better sanitation of the rural areas.
