City Beautiful gets 20 new buses

A total of 20 new midi AC and non-AC buses purchased under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme were flagged off by UT adviser KK Sharma from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) office, Sector 31, on Friday.

A total of 20 new midi AC and non-AC buses purchased under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme were flagged off by UT adviser KK Sharma from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) office, Sector 31, on Friday.

These buses will ply on local routes to strengthen the city bus service. Another 130 buses are expected to be received by December end. The midi buses, which are 9 metres long, are equipped with Global Positioning System, electronic destination board, electronic engine control and comply with Bharat Stage-IV emission norms.

On the occasion, the adviser distributed certificates among women conductors who have completed martial arts training. Some drivers and conductors were presented commendation certificates for their outstanding performance.

Municipal corporation commissioner VP Singh, transport secretary Bhawna Garg, Chandigarh Housing Board chief executive officer Prerna Puri, transport director TPS Phoolka and public relations director MM Sabharwal were also present.
