Congress demands immediate release of Bains brothers, Khaira

Congress spokesman Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Saturday said that by arresting Independent MLAs from Ludhiana Simarjit Singh Bains and his brother Balwinder Singh Bains under false charges of theft and illegal mining, the Badal government had admitted its nexus with the sand mafia.

Khaira claimed that the government was misusing the state power to muzzle, threaten and intimidate all those trying to raise their voice against a serious issue of illegal mining. Khaira said the Punjab Congress was of the opinion that the arrest of Bains brothers was a ploy to facilitate illegal sand mining mafia in Punjab. He said the Congress demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the brothers and their supporters.
