Panjab University has issued a show-cause notice to GTB Khalsa College for Women, Dasuya, after a fact-finding committee on allegations of sexual harassment found the charges to be true.
The decision was taken in the syndicate meeting held on Thursday. After examining the report of the fact-finding committee on a complaint of sexual harassment and administrative misconduct filed by a woman assistant professor and four others of GTB Khalsa College for Women, Dasuya, against a centre superintendent, the House members unanimously resolved that the report, along with show-cause notice, be sent to the principal and management of the college.
The college has been asked to reply within a stipulated time period. The matter would be tabled before syndicate for further consideration. The report would also be sent to the Punjab government for necessary action. Meanwhile, the House also resolved that the alleged culprit be debarred from all university assignments forever.
The House decided to impose a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, in Hoshiarpur for repeatedly admitting students in excess of the sanctioned strength. Also, the fee charged in excess from a number of students would be deposited with the university.
The House accepted the recommendations of the committee concerned that 25% tuition fee concession be extended to the wards of retired teachers of the affiliated colleges on a par with in-service teachers in respect of self-financing courses in the university and its regional centres.
The members reiterated its earlier decision that the initial proposal of UT director, higher education, Ajoy Sharma suggesting an alternative system of internal assessment in colleges be routed through the academic bodies of the university -- board of studies, faculties and academic council -- for information and discussion before the same is brought to syndicate.
