Elante parking contractor at it again; fined for overcharging
During random checking of parking lots, the enforcement department of the municipal corporation again found Elante Mall’s parking contractor overcharging visitors and imposed a fine of `18,000. This is the contractor’s fifth violation in the past two months.

The team also penalised contractors of parking lots at Sukhna Lake Club and Sector 34 for violations.While the Sector 34 contractor was fined `8,500, a `1,000 fine was slapped on the parking contractor of Sukhna Lake Club.
Earlier in February, the contractor at Elante Mall was slapped a `40,000 fine.
The contractor was found charging `20 for each entry of a car against the mandated charge of `10.
Speaking to HT, additional commissioner Sarita Malik said, “We will not tolerate any violations of terms and conditions, which cause inconvenience to the public.”
In the finance and contract committee meeting held in August last year, it was decided that if the contractor was caught overcharging for the seventh time, he will pay `10,000 as fine. For the first overcharging complaint, the fine is `500 and `1,000, `1,500, `2,500, `5,000 and `7,500 for the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth complaints respectively.
“We will take up the issue in the panel meeting and will ensure that strict action is taken against the erring contractor. We will not tolerate inconvenience to the public,” said Surinder Bahga, member of the finance and contract committee.
The contractors of the parking lots at Sector 34 and Sukhna Lake Club were not found overcharging, but were booked for other violations of the terms and conditions of the parking contract.
