Excise dept inspects chemist shops

UT excise and taxation department conducted inspections at five chemist shops in the city on Wednesday.

UT excise and taxation department conducted inspections at five chemist shops in the city on Wednesday.

The teams, which comprised RK Chaudhary, Munish Nayer, and RL Chug, all excise and taxation officers (ETO), under supervision of UT assistant excise and taxation commissioner RC Bhalla, carried out inspection at Kumar Brothers in Sector 11, Trilok Chemist at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Gupta Agencies in Sector 24 and one shop each in Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 and Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32.

The inspections started around 11am and were in progress till filling of this report.

Giving details, Bhalla said they conducted inspections after getting a complaint alleging that these shops were indulging in malpractice of evasion of value added tax (VAT) and were neither giving complete details of their sales nor bills.

According to officials, during the inspection, the teams seized important documents related to business transactions.
