According to police officials, Alexia Philipp, a tourist, had come to do sightseeing in India.

Philipp had come from Amritsar and was to board a Manali-bound tourist bus. The theft took place while she was waiting for the bus with her male colleague at around 10.30pm at a fuel station in Sector 52.

Philipp said her bag containing a passport, visa documents, 90 Euro (around Rs 7,650), a digital camera and Rs 5,000, was stolen.

The victim lodged a complaint with help from an employee of the fuel station. Soon after the complaint, the area police launched a hunt for nabbing the culprits since the matter involved a foreign national.

Police officials said tourists boarded buses for Kullu and Manali from a fuel station in Sector 52 instead of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Sector 43.

Police sources said the foreigner was assured that her passport and other relevant documents would be traced. The woman has also informed the French embassy in Delhi about the theft.

A theft case was registered at the Sector 36 police station.
