Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil on Monday accepted the resignation of cabinet minister who had on Sunday resigned from the government “on moral grounds” following the HT expose on how the grants from his discretionary quota were embezzled.

The portfolios of the outgoing minister would be looked after by chief minster Parkash Singbh Badal, aspokesman here said. These included animal husbandry, fisheries, dairy development and welfare of SC/BC.

“Ranike has resigned following the vigilance inquiry ordered to probe into his former PA's alleged involvement in the misappropriation of public funds disbursement,” the spokesman said in a press statement here.

The two charges against Ranike’s PA Sarbhdyal Singh, who was officially the minister’s political secretary, included embezzlement in the grants for the border area development and opening of the fake bank accounts in the name of the village panchayats to eat up the money from the minister’s discretionary grants.
