'Hans joining BJP not to affect SAD-BJP ties'
Anandpur Sahib member of Parliament Prem Singh Chandumajra on Thursday said Punjabi sufi singer and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) vice-president Hans Raj Hans' decision to quit the party and speculations over Hans joining Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) would not affect the relationships between both the parties.
Talking to the media in Rupnagar on Thursday, Chandumajra said any one was free to join any party.
Earlier, former Punjab director general police (DGP) Parmdip Singh Gill had left SAD to join the BJP and there are speculations that Hans Raj Hans would too follow the same path.
Chandumajra expressed hope that Centre would provide financial package to the state once its own financial position improves.
He said that the Punjab government had demanded the industrial package and funds for the irrigation projects, which, he hoped, could be provided in the coming union budget.
He added the prime minister had accepted drug menace as a national problem, which SAD was saying for the last many years.
He added that the Centre must provide assistance to Punjab for establishing drug de-addiction centres, strengthening of the police machinery and creating job opportunities in border areas.
Chandumajra criticised Congress member of Parliament (MP) Ravneet Singh Bittu over his remarks regarding the installation of the pictures of terrorists at Harmandar Sahib.
