Hisar-based Haryana Agricultural University has been granted patents on two of its technologies meant for detection of cattle and buffalo tissue in raw, cooked as well as spoiled meat.

These new methods of detection of cattle and buffalo meat, developed by Drs Minakshi, Hari Singh and Gaya Prasad, have been issued patent by the Patent Office, Government of India, HAU vice chancellor K S Khokhar, on Wednesday said in an official release here.

Touching upon the new patents, Khokhar said that both were rapid and reliable DNA-based tests which were able to identify cattle and buffalo tissue in raw, cooked as well as spoiled meat.

He said these tests were very useful to guard against socio-religious and public health concerns and to prevent adulteration and mis-representations.
